Ellen Macomber's family has lived in Abbeville, Louisiana since the late 1800's. The Russo family has farm land where an old barn sits amongst a pecan grove. Inside this barn, Ellen discovered old windows, most of which date to 50 years or older. Using these historic architectural pieces as canvas, she uses a technique involving a mixture of acrylic and polyurethane. This technique creates a stain glass effect.

In many cases Ellen also uses other mediums in these window paintings. The window titled "Call to Prayer" consists of paint, Turkish textiles, and Islamic pottery shards (10 th century B.C.) Another example is the "Storyville" painting, where she incorporated Victorian Lace (1890's).
